I love reality television. One of my favorite reality shows is Celebrity Apprentice, mainly because it’s the television equivalent of a three-ring circus. Plus, the celebrities playing act crazy to win money for their charity, so it’s a win-win. The first half of the finale was this past weekend, and finalists Trace Adkins and Penn Jillette were tasked with creating a unique flavor of Delish Ice cream from Walgreens. Keep reading for my thoughts on the flavors!
The two flavors are Trace’s Maple Macadamia Mash-Up and Penn’s Vanilla & Chocolate Magic Swirtle (more on that name later). Both are some of the most caloric ice creams I’ve ever tasted, and I’d imagine there’s more than a smidge of fat in them. You know what that means: they’re both absolutely delicious. But one flavor was significantly more delicious than the other.
I am rooting for Penn to win the show, but I just didn’t like his ice cream as much. Everything from the name, which needs explanation (it’s chocolate turtle pieces amidst swirls of chocolate, hence “swirtle”), to the clump of chocolate halfway through the pint of vanilla, it just tasted average to me. As a chocoholic, I was disappointed.
Trace’s, on the other hand, was something I didn’t think I’d like when I heard that was his flavor. It is absolutely delicious, and tastes like there’s at least a stick of butter in each pint. Plus, it gave me a sugar rush and I was screaming like Gary Busey for about an hour afterward (if you haven’t seen Gary’s sugar rush after trying the ice cream, click there to watch, it’s hilarious).
In short, they’re both good, but Trace’s really knocks it out of the park. If you want to get your hands on some, head to your local Walgreens and grab a pint or twelve. Plus, I believe some of the proceeds go to their respective charities (Trace: The Red Cross and Penn: Opportunity Village) so it’s a great excuse to be fat.
